Video Olympics is a sports-style arcade game built around many variations of the classic Pong formula. Players control paddles on the screen using Atari’s paddle controllers, hitting a ball back and forth while trying to score points against opponents. Quick reactions and careful timing are important to keep the ball in play and send it past the opposing paddle.
The cartridge includes a large collection of game types based on simple bat-and-ball gameplay. Players can try different variations inspired by sports such as soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, and handball, each with slightly different rules and playfield layouts. In total the game offers about 50 different variations, and some modes support up to four players using multiple paddle controllers.
Video Olympics was one of the launch titles for the Atari 2600, helping introduce early home console players to multiplayer arcade-style competition. Players can experiment with different rule sets and challenge friends in quick, score-based matches. Overall, the game delivers a simple but highly replayable experience built around reflexes, timing, and classic Pong-style gameplay.
