Primal is an action-adventure game following Jennifer Tate, a young woman who is drawn into a supernatural realm called Oblivion after a mysterious attack leaves her between life and death. Accompanied by a gargoyle companion named Scree, she journeys through four demon-dominated worlds tied to elemental chaos, gradually uncovering the balance between order and corruption in this other dimension. The story leans heavily on gothic fantasy themes, focusing on transformation, duality, and identity.

Gameplay alternates between Jennifer’s combat-focused exploration and Scree’s traversal and puzzle-solving abilities. Jennifer can transform into different demonic forms, each granting unique combat skills and elemental powers used to fight enemies and progress through hostile areas. Scree, on the other hand, can possess stone statues and interact with the environment to unlock paths, activate mechanisms, and bypass hazards that Jennifer cannot access directly.
