Pokemon Stadium: Gold and Silver brings the monsters from the Johto era into fully animated 3D battles on the Nintendo 64. Players select teams of Pokémon and take part in stadium tournaments where strategy, move selection, and type advantages decide the outcome of each fight. Watching familiar Pokémon perform their attacks in full animation was a big part of the appeal.

The game includes several battle cups with different rules and level limits, along with a Gym Leader Castle mode where players challenge trainers before facing gym leaders.
