Catrap is a puzzle-platformer where players guide two adventurous cats through underground labyrinths filled with monsters, traps, ladders, and movable blocks. The objective in each stage is to collect every treasure before reaching the exit, but accomplishing that requires careful planning as the maze layouts become increasingly intricate. Every level presents a self-contained puzzle that encourages experimentation instead of quick reflexes.

Gameplay revolves around pushing blocks, climbing ladders, avoiding enemies, and manipulating the environment to create safe paths through each maze. One of the game's defining mechanics is the ability to rewind every move instantly, allowing players to recover from mistakes without restarting an entire level. As new hazards and obstacles are introduced, solving each stage becomes less about speed and more about finding the correct sequence of actions.
